About

Who we are

Kitenergy is an innovative SME headquartered in Turin, specializing in the development of advanced technological solutions for renewable energy production. As a pioneer in high-altitude wind energy generation, Kitenergy focuses on designing innovative generators that operate at high altitudes, where optimal atmospheric conditions allow for greater efficiency compared to traditional ground-based wind turbines.

We’re a group of creative thinkers who have built a business to change the world

Our approach replaces the heavy, static structures of conventional wind towers with a dynamic, lightweight kite-based system. High-speed kites fly crosswind patterns while anchored to the ground, drastically cutting structural costs and land use while boosting energy output.

Since its founding, Kitenergy has been a pioneer in high-altitude wind energy. Our compact, modular generators are especially suited for remote and hard-to-reach areas, supporting global sustainable energy goals. Strategic partnerships and a relentless focus on innovation have established Kitenergy as a reference point and leader in the industry.

Technology

How it works

K100 system: a kite connected by cable to a compact ground station
The concept

A kite, a cable, and a ground station. That's it.

A smart kite flies high where winds blow strongest, pulling a cable that spins a generator on the ground. When the cable is fully extended, the kite glides back down using almost no energy — and the cycle starts again. Simple, powerful, endless.

One-time
01

Launch

The kite deploys automatically from a compact ground station, ready to harness the wind.

02

Capture

Flying crosswind patterns at up to 400 m altitude, where winds are 2‑3× stronger than at turbine height.

03

Generate

Wind force on the tether drives the ground-based generator, producing clean energy.

04

Recover

The kite recovers back, retracting the cable to restart the cycle automatically.

Imagine reliable electricity for your community — without diesel, without towers, without massive infrastructure. K100 taps into powerful high-altitude winds to deliver clean energy where traditional solutions can't reach, at a fraction of the cost.

A lightweight kite flies at up to 400 meters — well above conventional turbines — where winds blow stronger and steadier. No towers to build, no blades to maintain. Just consistent, clean power from the sky.

The modular system is designed for three core applications:

Diesel Substitution Remote Areas Mixed Industrial Use

Replacing diesel generators in communities beyond national grids, K100 significantly reduces environmental impact, operating costs, and carbon emissions.

Our Journey

Milestones

2010

The mission begins

Kitenergy launches with a mission to harness high-altitude winds through innovative kite-based systems, challenging conventional wind energy from day one.

2015

First proof of power

The KE60 prototype achieves 60kW of mechanical power in real field conditions, proving the technical viability of airborne wind energy generation.

2017

KE60 Engineering leap

Advanced energy management takes center stage: new DC-DC converters and supercapacitor buffers significantly improve system performance and reliability.

2021

Efficiency breakthrough

Critical firmware improvements push KE60's conversion efficiency to new heights, expanding operational capabilities and system stability.

2023

Change of paradigm

Years of KE60 testing produced invaluable data, real-world insights, and hard-won lessons. Drawing on every output and outcome from that journey, Kitenergy made a strategic decision: reimagine the entire concept from the ground up. The result is a radically new architecture — not a pivot away from experience, but a leap forward because of it.

2024

TK10 takes flight

TK10, the smallest scalable version of the new concept, takes flight. Field tests throughout 2024 collect crucial data that confirms the viability of the new paradigm.

2025

The K100 era begins

K100 takes shape. The ground segment is fully engineered, designed, and assembled. Initial autonomous flight tests validate key control assumptions, providing experimental proof of feasibility at TRL 3 — transforming vision into validated hardware.

When disaster strikes or remote sites need power fast, Sun in a Box delivers. Designed alongside the United Nations, this all-in-one solar station deploys in hours — powering field hospitals, communication hubs, and entire base camps without a single drop of fuel.

Expo 2025 Osaka

Kitenergy showcased Sun in a Box at Expo 2025 Osaka during the Marche Region Week (1–7 June 2025). At the Italian Pavilion, delegates from roughly 20 countries attended our workshop and bilateral meetings — leading to follow-up discussions with Japanese prefectures on emergency-management certification and exploratory talks with major Japanese companies.

In the following days, presentations continued with government agencies and private-sector partners across Japan and Southeast Asia. Expo 2025 marked a significant step in Kitenergy's international expansion, opening new channels for our rapid-deploy energy technology.
